Mandy asks…

My BF will be in Greece for 3 weeks and I want to give him an international calling card before he leaves?

What international calling cards to you recommend?
Best Rates, Best Company?
It will be for HIM to use to call me FROM greece to the US.
They will not be bringing their cellphones :(

admin answers:

I have always used AT&T calling cards. He will need to go online to get the AT&T access number for Greece first though.
What you do (when in Greece) is dial the access number for Greece. The AT&T lady will greet him saying “dial your number” or whatever and that’s when he’ll dial the phone number for the calling card and go through the steps of the PIN and everything else.
That’s the only one’s I’ve used though.
Also, go to www dot pennytalk dot com and look at those calling cards too, they seem like a pretty good deal, but I’ve never tried them.

Linda asks…

Is this scam? I’ve received a LETTER (NOT an E mail!) from spanish Yahoo international promotion program?

The letter says that I ‘ve won an award of 615,810 Euros from the Spanish Yahoo international program held on the 29th August 2008. (By the way I am from Greece.)
It says ” All participants were selected from white and yellow pages through a computer ballot system drawn from a million addresses in Asia, Australia, New Zea land, Africa, Europe and America as part of resolving the present economical crisis….etc”

I don’t believe it’s true, I ‘ve read some answers on this page about similar E-mails that are being sent but this is a LETTER with a STAMP from Spain with my address on it that I have never used on internet (I’m not in face book) and it has an address in Madrid, telephone, fax, e mail…
In addition it says that if I want to claim the money I should complete a form and send it to an insurance company in Spain.
I’m not doing anything of course but I’m shocked, how all this has been set up, is there anything I can do to find out its origination? Has somebody else received something like this?

admin answers:

This is true, you’ve won, and now you are a millionaire.

Sorry, but not really. This scam is older than the internet, and mail was the original way it happened. The scam goes like this: You will be asked to pay a “processing fee.” The another “administrative fee.” This will go on and on, with them dangling a carrot.

Sometimes they will ask for bank numbers, so they can wire the money into your account. What can be wired in, can also be wired out.

If it seems to good to be true, is isn’t true. No one will ever walk up and hand you a pile of money for a contest you didn’t enter.

David asks…

Work in Greece?

My daughter is thinking to look for her first job out of college with a big international company in Greece. She is graduating from a business school in June and is fluent in English, Greek and conversational in French.
Anyone has any ideas how to go about it? She prefers Thessaloniki but Athens is fine too
I appreciate all the responses

admin answers:

Her advantage is of course the fluency in Greek. Yes, she should get a list of international companies in her field of interest and studies and send them CVs (in 100 CVs she will maybe get 3 answers) – a good source are the embassies or the greek-something chambers of commerce (i.e Greek-american http://www.amcham.gr/ )
and she should also check sites like

http://europa.eu.int/eures/

http://www.skywalker.gr/

http://karieres.dolnet.gr/wma/karieres.main

http://www.stelechi.gr/

http://europa.eu.int/eures/

She should also know that salaries for beginners are peanuts.
